Principal's Message- The Good Leader
THE GOOD LEADER
“Whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant” Matthew 20:26
At St Bede's Primary School, student leadership plays a vital role in shaping a positive and supportive school environment. Leadership is about service, responsibility, and making a difference, and this week, students had the opportunity to vote for key leadership positions, including School Captain, Student Council leaders, and Sports House leaders. This process helps foster a sense of community, democracy, and collaboration, encouraging students to take ownership of their school and actively participate in its development. Congratulations to our new leaders and well done to all who presented a speech.
The scripture reference above reflects the values of leadership at St Bede’s. This verse highlights the idea that true leadership is not about seeking power, but about serving others with humility and grace. It reminds students that leadership is rooted in helping others, being a positive role model, and putting the needs of others before one's own desires. We see these values in our current school leaders as they serve our school community.
This week’s elections were an excellent example of these principles in action. Students voted for School Captain, who will be responsible for representing the student body, leading school assemblies, and inspiring others with their actions. The Student Council leaders will play an important role in voicing the concerns and ideas of their peers, while the Sports House leaders will encourage team spirit, fairness, and a love for sport.
These roles require leaders to embody key values such as respect, honesty, responsibility, and teamwork. Good student leaders act as role models, helping to create a welcoming and inclusive school culture. They listen to the needs of their classmates, inspire others to do their best, and take responsibility for their actions. Strong leadership helps build a positive school environment where all students feel valued, supported, and motivated to succeed.
As we reflect on leadership, we look to Jesus as the ultimate example. He taught us that true leadership comes from serving others with humility, compassion, and love. Jesus led by example, showing us how to put the needs of others first, forgive generously, and seek justice for all. As we nurture our students’ leadership skills, we encourage them to follow in His footsteps leading with integrity, kindness, and a servant heart. Let us support our children in becoming leaders who mirror the values of Christ, making a positive impact in their communities.
In the end, student leadership at St Bede’s is about more than just titles. It’s about making a difference in the lives of others, living out Christ’s call to serve, and fostering a community of care and respect.
Regards
Andrew
