Religious Education News

As we continue to navigate our way through these uncertain times it reminds us of the strength we can gain from God, always there, strong and loving. Let us continue to be strong in our faithfulness and to put our trust in God when we face challenges big and small.

‘The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer’ 2 Samuel 22:2

Eucharist Update – Year 4

Recently there have been some changes to Eucharist preparations and dates. A note went home with the children enrolled in First Eucharist last week to explain the new options. As soon as we have heard from everyone, I will communicate the outcome with you.  At this stage, most families have nominated to attend the Wednesday night, and this will work well because we can gather as a community to celebrate.

A reminder that a family session will be held on 8 September, 9 September and 10 September. A link will be sent home soon so that you can book into one of these sessions. These sessions will take roughly an hour.

Conceptual Inquiry

As a staff, our efforts to build capacity in the area of Religious Education continues. Earlier in the year we attended professional learning to build our understanding of scripture. Peta Goldburg, Professor of Religious Education, led these sessions and challenged us to dig deeper into the layers of meaning contained in scripture. This strengthens our ability to reflect on the context of scripture and assists us when planning for learning in Religious Education. Our transition to Conceptual Inquiry in Religious Education began three years ago and this has changed the way we teach Religion. Conceptual Inquiry allows teachers to focus more broadly on a concept rather than on topics and to respond to student needs. Recently our teachers have been working hard in buddy teams when planning in Religious Education to make curriculum accessible, engaging and enjoyable.

Assumption Mass

Thank you Mr Heffernan and Year 2 for leading the assumption mass last week. We are so lucky to have Fr Trenton preside over our school masses, sharing with us simple but relevant life messages at the children’s level. There were many hands up in the mass (like in a classroom lesson) very interactive and engaging. We look forward to his visits to Year 1  and Year 4 this week.
