Principal's Message

SELF- CONTROL

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law”

Galatians 5: 22-23

As we embark on a new term, St Bede’s are excited to revamp our wellbeing and behaviour management procedures. In any school these procedures should assist in guiding students in how we interact with each other and how to responsibly ‘fix things up’ if there is the need to. At St Bede’s our students exhibit many wonderful values, these help build character and provide a beautiful foundation for life.

Self-control is a fundamental value that plays a significant role in our journey towards personal growth and success. Self-control is the ability to control one's impulses, emotions, and actions in pursuit of achieving goals. It is also the ability to say “No”. It empowers students to make wise choices, focus on their studies, and cultivate habits that lead to academic and personal achievements.

Like any skill, self-control can be developed and strengthened over time. At St Bede’s we continue to work in partnership with parents to develop a wide variety of skills that are important to our community. As educators and parents, we play a vital role in instilling the value of self-control in our students. By modelling self-discipline in our own lives, we set an example that they can emulate. At St Bede’s we have wonderful role models who demonstrate self-control. Our Snow Team is a terrific example of a team of people with self-discipline or self-control in learning a skill and achieving great things. Students who strive to achieve because things do not come easy are another.

Self-control is a transformative quality that permeates every aspect of our lives. When we incorporate it into our daily routines and decision-making, we can experience remarkable benefits including spiritual growth, academic excellence, emotional well-being and personal success.

Self-control holds immense importance in our personal and spiritual growth. In the pages of the Bible, we find profound wisdom and guidance on self-discipline, offering us a timeless framework to follow in our pursuit of excellence.

The last characteristic listed in the scripture passage as a fruit of the spirit is self-control. The fruit of the Spirit is the change in our character that comes about because of the Holy Spirit’s work in us. We do not become a Christian on our own, and we cannot grow on our own. It is God who is at work for each of us.

Let us embark on this new term with a renewed commitment to nurturing self-control in our students. Together, we can empower them to become focused, responsible, and resilient individuals who will not only excel in their studies but also make a positive impact in the world around them.

Regards

Andrew
