Dear Parents
I hope everyone is travelling okay and not feeling too overwhelmed by all that is happening in NSW and Queensland at this time. School requirements are becoming somewhat stricter as the term progresses with regular updates each week. From this week all staff will sign in using the CBR App as well as visitors. As mentioned in a letter sent to families last week, we are also preparing for remote learning in case we go into lockdown.
On Monday morning this week we welcomed Lucia back to our school community after the family have been in England for the last couple of years. She has joined the Year 5/6B group.
We had a beautiful family mass on Sunday 25th July at St Peter Chanel’s, Yarralumla. This is only our second mass since we were invited to be involved on every fourth Sunday of the month. The Yarralumla parish community has welcomed us with open arms by inviting the children to read and being part of the choir. We will celebrate the feast day of St Mary of the Cross led by Year 3 tomorrow at 12 noon which will be the first mass this term as a whole school. We also have the feast of our Lady’s Assumption mass next Friday at the same time which will be another nice occasion for staff, parents and students to be together. We do have a limit on adults for each mass but can accommodate parents of students taking part.
Thank you to the thirty two respondents to our annual online school improvement survey distributed last term. It was a new platform this year with very different questions. Staff and students from Years 3-6 also completed the survey online. On initial review our results are very pleasing across the board. I will share a more detailed appraisal in the next Principal’s message.
We held our regular School Board meeting on Tuesday evening this week. The incoming Principal, Andrew Casey attended as well as Mary-Jane Carroll–Fajarda from Catholic Education. Mary-Jane gave us a briefing about the next steps post the consultation process concerning strategic responses and on-going development for St Bede’s into the future. Members of the School Board will meet with CE regularly as a working party moving forward.
The P&F meeting for Term 3 will be held at 7pm, Tuesday 10th August in the school library and via Zoom. All interested parents are welcome to attend. The P & F dinner scheduled for Friday 3rd September is booked at Pialligo Estate and the fundraising committee are busy preparing for what is going to a great night. Ticket sales at this stage are quite slow so I encourage you to get online and book as soon as possible. The ticket sales close next Thursday. I have attached a letter from the P&F fundraising committee concerning corporate sponsorship packages.
ICAS testing begins next week. If you have expressed an interest, please enrol online before Friday afternoon.
Our Floriade bulb and plant garden at the front of the school is beginning to sprout and flower. I am very optimistic that this is a sign that the cold is going and spring is in the air.
We are celebrating how well Australia has fared at the Tokyo Olympics tomorrow by asking the students to wear green and gold clothes or accessories.
Have a lovely weekend.
Regards
Julie
