PERSISTENCE
"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."
Galatians 6:9
At St Bede’s Primary School, we believe that persistence is one of the most important qualities that our students can develop. It is a vital trait that can help them overcome challenges, achieve their goals, and ultimately, succeed in life. In partnership with parents, this is our shared goal.
As you may know, persistence is the ability to keep going, even when things get tough. It is the determination to keep trying, even when we experience setbacks or failures. Our students have persisted and made it to the end of Term 1, albeit tired. I especially congratulate our Kindergarten students on their first term of school.
At St Bede’s we encourage our students to embrace persistence in all areas of their lives, whether it is in the classroom, on the sports field, or in their personal pursuits. By doing so, they can develop the resilience they need to face challenges and keep working towards their goals. It is pleasing to see our students persist with learning, even when they find it challenging.
There are several ways that we can help our children develop persistence:
- Encourage them to set realistic goals: When children set achievable goals, they are more likely to stick with them and persist in their efforts to achieve them.
- Teach them to break big tasks into smaller ones: This helps children to see progress along the way, which can be motivating and encourage them to keep going.
- Praise their efforts, not just their achievements: Acknowledge the hard work that your child puts into their pursuits, even if they don't always achieve their goals. This can help them develop a growth mindset, where they see challenges as opportunities to learn and grow.
Persistence is a recurring theme in the Bible, with numerous scriptures emphasising the importance of perseverance, endurance, and steadfastness. The scripture verse above encourages Christians to persist in doing good deeds, even when it may be difficult or discouraging, because they will eventually reap the benefits of their efforts. Our students value being the best version of themselves and doing good for others. This is what makes St Bede's such an amazing school and a wonderful community.
Have a terrific Easter, remembering to enjoy the break, connect with each other and remember Jesus. We look forward to seeing children back on Wednesday 26 April.
Regards
Andrew
Pupil Free Day (24 April 2023)
We look forward to welcoming students back to St Bede's on Wednesday 26 April 2023.
On Tuesday 24 April, our teachers will be taking part in professional learning of The Writing Revolution. This program will be implemented at St Bede's throughout 2023 and will target writing.
The Writing Revolution provides teachers with an evidence-based and proven instructional methodology, the Hochman Method. The methodology rests on explicit, carefully sequenced instruction, building from sentences to compositions. The Hochman Method is not a separate writing curriculum but rather an approach designed to be adapted to and embedded in the content being taught in any subject area and at any grade level.
We look forward to sharing more about The Writing Revolution throughout the year.
