THE JOY OF LEARNING
"The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out." Proverbs 18:15
At St Bede’s we aim to celebrate the endless possibilities and joy that come with learning. Learning is a lifelong journey that empowers us, broadens our horizons, and shapes us into the individuals we aspire to be. We do this by nurturing curiosity, setting goals and working with families to support our children.
Learning begins with a spark of curiosity, that insatiable thirst for knowledge. Embracing curiosity allows children to explore the world around them, to ask questions, and to seek answers. It is through curiosity that we uncover new ideas, unravel mysteries, and make remarkable discoveries. Our students are exposed to unlimited learning opportunities.
Setting goals is a vital part of the learning process whether it's a difficult maths problem, learning to write complex sentences or mastering a musical instrument. At St Bede’s we set goals for student learning as assessment occurs. We continue to review data and celebrate success.
Learning isn't always smooth sailing; it involves overcoming challenges. Learning is a collaborative process. We grow not only by our own efforts but also by supporting and learning from one another. The key lies in perseverance, resilience, and maintaining a positive attitude. Our teachers and parents work together to increase our children’s self confidence and focus on personal growth.
Learning is an essential part of our growth and development as individuals, and it is also encouraged in the Scriptures. The Bible emphasises the importance of acquiring knowledge, seeking wisdom, and learning from God's teachings.
This verse reminds us that a discerning heart actively seeks knowledge. Learning is not passive; it requires a desire to acquire knowledge and understanding. Learning from Jesus involves not only gaining knowledge but also adopting His qualities of gentleness and humility. At St Bede’s our students are both gentle and humble living out our motto each and every day.
Learning shapes who we are, opens doors to new opportunities, and enables us to make a positive impact in the world. May we embrace the gift of learning and continually seek knowledge and wisdom in our lives.
Regards
Andrew
St Bede’s Cross Country Carnival
What magnificent weather we had for our annual school cross country carnival on Monday. Students completed their designated course and with a huge sigh of relief, they crossed the finish line. Those who finished in the top 5 are now invited to compete in the South Weston Carnival on June 6th. A note went out via compass to those parents whose children are involved.
Walk Safely to School Day
Today, over 70 students, parents and teachers had a lovely morning walk to school from Flinders Park to celebrate Walk Safely to School Day. It was great to see all the smiles on their faces when they reached school and were treated to some fruit, giveaways and temporary tattoos. Thank you to all the teachers who were able to accompany the students as we crossed the roads and made sure they were safe.
ACT/Regional NSW Primary School Skiing Championships
St Bede’s is interested in forming a team to compete in the ACT/Regional NSW Primary School Skiing Championships on 18-19 July (first week of Term 3). There are different skiing and snowboarding events. Students can compete individually or in teams of 2 - 4 depending on the event. Children need basic skiing/boarding skills to enter, but the emphasis is very much on fun and participation.
If your child is interested, please contact Elyse Charles and Darren Roberts so we can provide more information and see if we have enough interest to form a St Bede’s team.

St Bede Feast Day (Thursday 25 May)
Thursday 25 May is St Bede's Day and parents and friends are invited to our annual Feast Day Mass. Mass will commence at 12.00 noon and be held in the school hall. Kindergarten and Year 5 will be hosting the mass.
As part of the Feast Day celebrations, Year 6 will hold their annual fete from 2.00 to 3.00pm. Vouchers to participate in the fun and celebrations can be purchased via Qkr!
Parents are asked to please ensure that children are wearing the correct school uniform to school each day. At this stage of the term, children should be wearing their winter uniform each day. We understand that there is the odd occasion where it is not possible to wear the correct uniform.
The Uniform Boutique is open on Friday mornings from 8.30 to 9.30am and orders can be placed via the Qkr! app.
Main uniform issues:
- joggers/coloured shoes on non sport days
- wearing hair out
- wearing jewellery or make up
- incorrect coloured trousers
- non school hat or beanie
We thank you for your support in reinforcing our uniform policy.
St Bede's was successful in it's application for a $25,000 grant from the Federal Government. The Schools Upgrade Grant will assist our school to complete the courtyard area near the K-2 class rooms and a number of other smaller projects.
We thank the Federal Government for this initiative and the grant funding. We will keep our community updated on the developments.
