Friendship
"A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity”
Proverbs 17:17
Friendship is an essential part of our lives, and it plays a crucial role in shaping our personalities. It is also an essential part of what makes St Bede’s such a wonderful school and community. Good friends not only bring happiness and joy to our lives, but they also support us during difficult times, encourage us to be our best selves, and provide a sense of belonging and acceptance.
As we navigate our school years, it is important to remember that building and maintaining strong, healthy friendships requires effort and commitment. Here are some tips that can help you foster meaningful friendships:
- Be yourself: It is essential to be authentic and genuine when building friendships. Don't try to be someone you are not to impress others. True friends will accept you for who you are and appreciate your uniqueness.
- Show kindness and empathy: A little kindness and empathy go a long way in building lasting friendships. Make an effort to listen actively, be understanding, and offer help and support when needed.
- Communicate effectively: Communication is key to building strong friendships. Make sure to express your thoughts and feelings clearly and honestly, and be open to listening to your friends' perspectives.
- Invest time and energy: Building lasting friendships takes time and effort. Make an effort to spend quality time with your friends, engage in activities you both enjoy, and show that you value and appreciate their friendship.
At St Bede’s, friendships are formed within cohort groups and across grade levels. This is truly special and assists our students in socialising with different people. Friendships are often formed in the playground, sporting pursuits and class activities. The same can be said for our parents.
Friendship is a theme that is woven throughout the Bible. The verse above emphasises the idea that true friends are there for each other through both good times and bad, and are like family in their support and loyalty. It also highlights the importance of having companionship and support in life, and the ways in which friends can uplift and strengthen each other.
Should your child have any difficulty in forming friendships or is having friendship troubles, please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher. Little issues can be easily solved or worked toward with some simple strategies.

Andrew

DIBELS is used to inform decisions teachers make regarding instruction, intervention, and extension for reading. Students complete a one-on-one assessment, 3 times a year and we can continue to ‘progress monitor’ throughout the year.
Parents are invited to attend an information sessions about DIBELS. Please refer to the attached flyer for details and regiseter using the link below
