CALM AND STILL
"He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed."
Psalm 107:29
As we navigate the final 4 weeks of the school year at St Bede’s, it becomes increasingly essential to find solace in moments of calmness and stillness. In the midst of our bustling schedules, deadlines, and the constant hum of activity, it is easy to overlook the importance of taking a step back, a deep breath, and embracing the tranquillity that lies within. This may even be through prayer.
During Term 4, the patience and tolerance levels of children diminishes, small issues seem much larger and significant, but it is during these moments that the power of calmness becomes most evident. I encourage each member of our school community to cultivate a sense of inner peace and stillness. Our students thrive in the calm and are quick to settle when required.
Amidst the whirlwind of academic pursuits, extracurricular activities, and the myriad of responsibilities we shoulder, it is crucial to pause and reflect on the year that has been and the final 4 weeks. Take a moment to appreciate the beauty of simplicity, to acknowledge the present, and to find gratitude in the small moments that often pass unnoticed.
Some people incorporate moments of calmness into their daily routine, whether it be through mindfulness exercises, a quiet stroll, or simply a few minutes of intentional breathing. By embracing these moments, we equip ourselves with the resilience needed to face challenges with a clear mind and an open heart.
Here at St Bede’s we foster an environment that values not only academic achievement but also the wellbeing of each individual within our community. Together, let us create a space where stillness is not only encouraged but celebrated.
The scripture reference above references the quiet of storming seas. God settles the weary heart and soul. He is constantly in the business of taking unrest and bringing his people to a settled state. Christ works to soothe the pains and hurts and frustrations life has wrought. He is the lifter of our heads and the one who brings us to the still waters.
May we all find moments of stillness, both individually and collectively, and may these moments become the foundation for a harmonious and thriving school community.
Regards
Andrew
