2025
Families with siblings due to start school in 2025 are asked to complete the online enrolment form via our website. Please note that zoning is not an issue for families with a child already at St bede's.
Parents are asked to recommend and encourage enrolments for Kindergarten 2025. Families within Red Hill, Griffith, Yarralumla, Deakin, Barton, Forrest and Hume are asked to enrol via our school website. Should you know of a family outside of these zones, please ask them to book a meeting via the school website or contact the office to arrange a time to discuss enrolments.
2024
We still have availability to accept new students in Year 2, Year 3, Year 4 and Year 6. Should you know of any families looking to relocate to Canberra or wanting a new schooling option, please ask them to contact the school.
Congratulations to all the students who attended the St Bede’s Swimming Carnival on Thursday.
We had 51 students participate in 100m and 50m events with over 170 students competing in races and all students joining in novelty events. We have students who have qualified in 22 different events, more details to come.
A huge thank you to all staff and parents who helped make this day special for all students. It was great to see Kinder and Year 1 there and having a fabulous time. A special mention to the students from St Mary MacKillop College who were an excellent support.
I would also like to thank all students and parents for their understanding in regards to the swim testing and the restrictions this gives. We are continuing to work with Stromlo Leisure Centre to iron out these challenges to get as many students swimming as possible.
Huge congratulations on exceptional behaviour with many people telling me how great all students were.
Thank you everyone for your amazing support and I can’t wait till our carnival next year.
Parent Teacher Conferences will take place from Monday 4 March to Friday 8 March. You are invited to book a session time to meet with your child's teacher via Compass. This will be live from Friday 16/2.
This meeting is to discuss your child in more detail and how they have settled into the new academic year. It is a terrific opportunity to have home and school connect to discuss your child's learning.
Dear Families and Friends,
What a wonderful start we have had to the school year!
St Teresa of Calcutta a tremendous faith leader provides us with great insight through the following words that she shared:
The fruit of Silence is prayer.
The fruit of Prayer is faith.
The fruit of Faith is love.
The fruit of Love is service.
The fruit of Service is peace.
These words are simple, yet profound and stir the spirit within.
The opening school mass was truly a highlight, where our proud Year 6 leaders were formally commissioned to guide and inspire their fellow students. Their commitment to embodying our school values sets an uplifting tone for the entire school year. Thank you, Mr Baldwin, for preparing the mass and guiding our young leaders. Ash Wednesday was a solemn and reflective occasion, led with grace by our Year 4 students and Mrs Horsburgh. Their thoughtful participation set the stage for the Lenten season, a time of reflection and spiritual growth. We are fortunate to have the guidance of Fr. Trenton, our wonderful faith leader, who has been instrumental in fostering a sense of community and spirituality within our school.
This Lenten season, we encourage our school community to focus on a change of heart, viewing it as a more meaningful endeavour than simply giving up treats. The theme for the school year, "Stillness and Silence," invites us to embrace moments of quiet reflection, allowing us to cultivate a deeper connection with our faith and personal values. This is especially true during the next 40 days of Lent, take time to breathe, to think and reflect on the words of St Teresa of Calcutta.
In the spirit of giving and solidarity, we are excited to announce that during Lent, we will be raising funds for Project Compassion. Our Social Justice Action Team will lead this initiative, aiming to make a tangible difference in the lives of those in need. By contributing to Project Compassion, our school community can actively participate in acts of kindness and compassion, embodying the true spirit of Lent. More details to come about our fundraising event.
May this school year be a time of growth, reflection, and shared commitment to making a positive impact on the world.
Wishing everyone a blessed and purposeful Lenten season.
Sincerely,
Nikki Dwyer
Creating a Positive Space: Our Take on Behaviour
As we settle into the school year, I wanted to share our position on behaviour management. The core of it all? Feeling like you belong. Yep, that's the secret!
We're all about being positive and there are three ideas that underpin our approach:
- The Right to Feel Safe: We want everyone to feel secure and comfortable in our school.
- The Right to Respect: Treating each other right is non-negotiable.
- The Right to Learn: Every student has the right to learn and grow.
Think of behaviour management like a lesson plan:
- Clear 'Scheme of Work': We've got a plan for what behaviours we're cheering on. We teach this explicitly and keep it positive.
- Checks for Understanding: We make sure everyone's on the same page with what's expected.
- Fading of Guidance: We're helping everyone shift from needing guidance to doing it independently.
- Frequent Revisiting of Core Ideas: Keep the good vibes going by coming back to the basics regularly.
- Reteaching When Necessary: Just like in class, if we need a refresher, we're all in.
Keep an eye out this week as we tackle "Waiting and Lining Up." Teachers will be teaching these skills, and we'll be giving out tickets for awesome behaviour, focusing on our core values: Respect, Responsibility, and Resilience.
Let's make this school year a positive and awesome one, where everyone feels good about being part of our school community!
