Next week is Reconciliation Week which begins with the public holiday on Monday. As a school, we will be celebrating Reconciliation Week by learning about the importance of this National event and what it means to strengthening the unity and reconciliation in our great country.
Reconciliation Australia explains that National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The dates for NRW remain the same each year; 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey – the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision.
This year’s theme, Now More Than Ever, is a reminder to all of us that no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will -and must -continue. We are so lucky at St Bede’s because we are a community who ‘Walk in Love and Peace’ by showing Respect, Responsibility and Resilience.
On Wednesday, we will be creating a ‘Sea of Hands’ to show how our actions, now more than ever, will contribute to the continued reconciliation for our community and country. If your family would like to make a hand, please email Haley by Friday 24 May and she will send a hand home with your child this week.

Students should remain on the silver seats for collection by a parent. Children who are attending after school sporting activities will remain on the silver seats until the coach of the team or the responsible parent arrives.
Children with siblings at training remain the responsibility of the supervising teacher until 3.30pm upon the completion of the duty. After this time, students who are not collected will be situated at the front office.
Would you please ensure that chillren have clear instructions as to how they are getting home and who will be collecting them each day.
