National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC) Week celebrations will be held across Australia from 7-14 July 2024 to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year’s theme chosen by the National NAIDOC Committee, is Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud.
The theme honours the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture – with fire a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It invites all Australians to listen, learn, and engage in meaningful dialogue, fostering a society where the wisdom and contributions of Indigenous peoples are fully valued and respected.
Some of the ways you can support National NAIDOC Week are to read a book by a First Nations author, listen to podcasts or music by First Nations artists and creatives, or attend an NAIDOC Week Event. You can find an event in your local area by checking out the NAIDOC Event Calendar.
Thank you to 3 Gold and 3 Blue for leading our NAIDOC liturgy today. They celebrated the theme of 'Blak, Loud and Proud' and connected it with scripture, reminding us to share our light, uniqueness and talents with others. NAIDOC week is celebrated between 7-14 July. We look forward to welcoming Indigenous performer, Mitch Tambo next term, to share his musical talents and culture.
St Bede's is pleased to advise that we will have 2 Kindergarten classes in 2025. Our Kindergarten teachers for 2025 will be Mrs Elyse Charles and Mrs Lisa Wright. Elyse and Lisa will be involved in running the Kindy-Set-Go in Term 4 and are excited about working with our newest students.
It is anticipated that there will be approximately 20 children in each class. Parents are invited to spread the good news with friends and family as there are still a few places in each class available.
Letters of offer have been distributed and parents are asked to accept their offer quickly.
Congratulations to Olive for winning the Rostrum Quarter-Finals, held at St Bede's earlier this week. Olive presented an entertaining and engaging speech on the topic of 'Get involved'. Olive will now go on to compete in the semi-finals in Term 3. We also thank Matilda for chairing the evening and Elly for being our offical time keeper. Well done, ladies.
There is an increasing number of students who are wearing the incorrect uniform on any given day. Could parents please be vigilant in following the St Bede's unform guidelines.
We ask that you pay particular consideration to the following:
1) ensuring that children do not wear shorts on normal uniform days.
2) wearing joggers on normal uniform days.
3) mixing elements of sport and normal uniform.
4) wearing non approved socks.
Parents are advised that our school uniform will be a focus in Term 3. Students wearing the incorrect uniform will be asked to follow guidelines and parents will be notified to address uniform matters.
Just a reminder that Monday 22 July is a pupil free day for staff professional development.
We look forward to seeing all students return on Tuesday 23 July.
