Principal's Message- What does the Assumption of Mary mean for us at St Bede's?
“Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfil His promises to her” Luke 1:45
At St Bede’s, faith and community are at the heart of who we are. We aim to share the message of Jesus Christ not only through our teaching but through our daily actions, interactions, and celebrations. Our school is a place where Catholic values are lived, nurtured, and modelled, giving our children a strong foundation to grow with confidence, compassion, and hope. We also recognise that faith doesnn’t hold the same significance for every family, and we are grateful that our community comes together to share these values in an inclusive and welcoming way. At St Bede’s, everyone is invited to experience faith in meaningful, everyday moments.
The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a beautiful reminder of God’s promise to all who live faithfully in His love. It is also an opportunity for us, as parents, to pause and reflect on the example Mary sets for us in nurturing and guiding our children. Mary’s “yes” to God was lived out in her daily acts of love, humility, and trust, even in uncertain times. Her Assumption into heaven is a celebration of that faithful life and a sign of hope for us as we journey alongside our children.
At St Bede’s, we marked this special feast day by celebrating Mass together as a school community. We are grateful to Fr Paul for leading such a prayerful celebration, to our Year 2 students for their reverent and meaningful contributions, and to the parents who joined us in prayer. These shared moments allow our children to see faith in action, to experience it as something lived, and to witness the strength of our community.
The Assumption also reflects the Catholic values we nurture at St Bede’s, faith, respect, compassion, service, and hope. Mary’s life embodies these values. Her patience, courage, and humility provide a model for living with integrity, love, and care for others. We see these qualities demonstrated every day in our students, staff, and wider school community. My principal’s award this week acknowledges a young boy for showing compassion toward others.
Mary’s Assumption reminds us that the small acts of love, patience, and faith we show to our children are part of something greater. Our daily efforts, sacrifices, and moments of care are never unnoticed. They contribute to the growth and wellbeing of our children and the wider community, drawing us all closer to God and to one another.
Regards
Andrew

Canteen - limited menu Friday 22 August
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the canteen will be operating with a limited menu on Friday 22 August. As usual, parents will still need to place an order from the available items by 5.00pm on Thursday 21 August. We thank Tess and her volunteers for providing this service even when it is a little trickier to do!
From time to time, students go on excursions which are not covered by school fees. We do try to absorb the costs of excursions as much as we can but it is not always possible and occasionally we need to pass these costs on to parents.
Sometimes these excursions are to places where parents have memberships such as the Zoo and Questacon and we are asked if the cost can be reduced as the student will use the family membership. Unfortunately this is not possible, as these excursions are an educational event which usually involves a guide and special access which are not covered by that membership.
We appreciate your understanding.
Parent Teacher Conferences Term 3
We would like to remind parents that online parent-teacher conferences will be held at the end of Term 3. These conferences are newly introduced and provide a valuable opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and learning, albeit a shorter session.
Further details, including how to book a time, will be distributed to families in the coming weeks. We look forward to connecting with you soon.
Ben Macintyre
We would like to acknowledge and thank Ben for his outstanding work as our ICT Coordinator in 2025. Ben has provided invaluable leadership in supporting staff and students with technology and helping us make the most of digital tools for learning. His patience, expertise, and willingness to go the extra mile have made a real difference.
Canteen Volunteers
At St Bede’s, we are so fortunate to have a team of generous and dedicated volunteers who give their time and energy to help make our canteen such a welcoming and well run place.
A very special thank you to our Canteen Manager, Tess Green, for her tireless efforts, organisation, and the warmth she brings to the role. Tess ensures our canteen runs smoothly each week, and her hard work does not go unnoticed.
