Confirmation

Congratulations to our Confirmation Candidates. It was obvious that the children were spiritually ready to make this commitment in their lives and we feel so privileged to be a part of their faith journey. It was lovely to see our families gather for this special occasion.  The atmosphere was warm and reflective. A big thank you to our Year 5/6 teachers, Ben Macintyre, Katie Horsburgh and Breen Fox for preparing the students so beautifully. I would also like to give a special mention to Fr Trenton who travelled back from another commitment to be with us to celebrate this special event, and as always led with dedication and a joyful spirit.

St Bede’s Day Mass

Next Tuesday, 25 May, is a big event in our School calendar when we celebrate St Bede’s Day Mass and fete. Kindergarten will lead our mass with a little bit of assistance from their buddies. Please R.S.V.P. if you would like to come to veronica.trow@cg.catholic.edu.au as we do have restrictions in place and can only accommodate a limited number in our hall. In the afternoon, our leaders will run fete stalls for the students to enjoy. Please purchase tickets for the stalls via Qkr!  These can be purchased in increments of $5.00 or you can select another amount to donate. Money raised will be split between the Year 6 graduation and also donated to a charity chosen by the children as a part of their ‘Confirmation action’.

Dear Parents and Carers,

Last year, St Bede’s introduced a new administrative portal for marking our classroom rolls called COMPASS.  This is a school management platform that is being rolled out by Catholic Education across the system and St Bede’s is a Phase 1 school, making us part of the first 20 schools to introduce this facility.  This now includes the new tablet kiosk, located in the front office, for signing students in and out.  This allows our rolls to be updated automatically and negates the need for sign in/out slips. 

It is now time for us to introduce the next feature of the system, the Parent Portal.  The portal has a number of functions, all of which we will not be accessing from the outset as we already have a number of active subscriptions and functional systems.  Most importantly at this stage, this portal will be the distribution hub for Semester 1 reports.  This means that reports will be distributed digitally for the first time and they will not be sent home in hard copy.  Julie will elaborate on the new report features and layout in her next Principal’s Message. 

At this stage, we will utilise the following functions through the COMPASS Parent Portal:

• Distribution of student reports
• Submitting absence notes
• Updating basic contact information
• Viewing attendance records

The Parent Portal can be accessed through the Compass School Manager App on your device, or through any web browser by visiting https://stbedes-act.compass.education/

The launch of our Parent Portal will roll out shortly, allowing time for you to familiarise yourself with the functions prior to reports being distributed in Week 10.  In the coming week, you will receive an email to your address (already provided to the school) with your username and password attached and information regarding how to login into the Compass Portal.
