Dear Families,
Thank you to our wonderful parent helpers in organising our special school party disco this Friday. I am sure it will be lots of fun for all involved.
As you know, professional development is ongoing at St Bede’s and we strive to improve our practice daily. Our current foci in Religion is the use of formative assessment, assisting teachers to plan targeted assessment. Formative assessment helps us to know what the student knows and understands but more to the point, it informs our teaching. Using daily, weekly and monthly reviews are a great way to capture student understanding and when we use familiar thinking routines, it reduces cognitive load. We are looking forward to refining our practice and implementing some new strategies over the coming weeks.
Formative Assessment is not a task it is a practice. It is about leveraging student thinking, moving and supporting students to move through rich, complex ideas and knowledge to develop a deep understanding. (Ron Ritchhart)
In response to interest shown by our families to join together in faith, we would like to extend a warm welcome to all of the St Bede’s community to attend mass together.
Where: St Peter Chanel’s (Cnr of Loch and Weston St, Yarralumla)
When: Sunday 20 June, 9.30am.
Thank you to all of the families who have been donating to our winter appeal, we have had some generous jumper and coat donations so far. Weekends are a perfect time to clean out the cupboards at home. Don’t forget to send in your preloved items for St Vincent de Paul. The cut off for receiving donations will be 21June.
We would love any of the following:
- warm socks
- blankets
- sleeping bags
- beanies
- scarves
- adult jumpers
- adult coats
- gloves
- cosy clothes
As I think about those people who live on the streets in Canberra during the winter months, I realise how important it is to live out the Gospel message and to help those in need. It is shocking to know that there are currently more than 3 million Australians living in poverty. Jesus walked the walk and didn’t just talk. Let’s be more like Jesus and be generous with all those we encounter.
We are looking forward to seeing you at the Family Mass this Sunday.
Blessings,
Nikki
