Dear Parents,
As announced yesterday, the new Principal for St Bede’s from the beginning of 2022 is Mr Andrew Casey. Andrew is currently the Principal at St Mary’s Primary School, Young and brings a wealth of experience to our school. I am hoping to introduce Andrew to the school community as the year progresses and I wish him the very best as he begins his association with this beautiful school.
Our new garden space at the front of the school has been completed and is full of bulbs and annuals from our Floriade grant. It has been quite a labour of love and I especially thank Mrs Fox for her vision, organisation and planting. It is going to be an exceptional space this spring and another example of making our school look lovely and cared for.
Congratulations to Amelie in Year 6 on being chosen to represent our school at the Rostrum quarter finals on the 16 June at Jerrabomberra Primary School. Amelie was chosen from a number of students in Years 5 and 6 in a school final held last week. She will speak on the topic ‘A Better Way’. Good luck Amelie! Congratulations also to Heidi, again in Year 6 who was runner-up in the competition. This is a marvellous opportunity for our students to speak in a public forum.
Reports will be available for access from the parent portal on Friday of Week 10. The teachers have worked hard making sure that they have carried out thorough assessment for this reporting. This report is the first in the new format that is only sent digitally through the portal. It does not include comments and encourages parent engagement and conversation about student learning through parent/teacher interviews. These will be conducted during Week 2 next term and will concentrate on strengths, challenges, effort and areas of growth. This new approach to academic reporting is a developing process with further work to be undertaken to determine how to report on progress and achievement. A letter will be sent home to families in Week 10 with more detailed information.
I would like to remind families that the School Improvement Survey closes tomorrow afternoon. It would beneficial if you could complete this if you get a chance. I am aware that some of the questions are quite obscure, but the responses are important to future plans and organisation.
We are getting close to our community get together on Friday 18 June, with the kids being involved in a disco straight after school and families having the opportunity to catch up for a drink and nibblies while the children are at the disco. A flier will be distributed today with further details. Plans are also underway for a celebratory dinner next term at Pialligo Estate on Friday 3 September. A ‘Save the Date’ was sent through Szapp this week. Both occasions should be lot of fun for all.
During the winter months, the Library will open at lunchtime from Monday to Thursday so that the children have somewhere to go out of the cold. Activities such as board games, educational computer games and colouring are just some of the activities that will be offered during this time.
Open Classrooms will be held on Tuesday of Week 10 across the school. This is the first time we have been able to open up our classrooms since early last year due to Covid, so it will be wonderful for parents to be able to see the learning that is happening. The students are rightly proud of their achievements and this is an excellent way for them to showcase them.
Being sent home with this message is a copy of a letter from Matthew Hutchins, the Principal of Marist College to reassure families that Catholic boys from St Bede’s are guaranteed a position at his school in Year 7. This may alleviate any worries parents may have concerning moving their boys during primary school years. Please click here to view this letter.
Our Spice Play group continues to be huge success and is a popular place on a Friday morning. In the last few weeks the area in the multi-purpose room has been full of mums and bubs having a great time experimenting with a variety of activities all of which the kids are thoroughly enjoying. A huge thank you to Jenny St George who not only organises Friday mornings but who puts extra work into the activities to make them special.
Have a lovely long weekend
Regards
Julie Douglas
