Saint Mary MacKillop – August 8
Today we celebrate the Feast Day of Saint Mary MacKillop, Australia’s first canonised saint and a remarkable woman whose legacy continues to inspire generations. Born in 1842, Mary MacKillop dedicated her life to the service of others, especially the poor and marginalised. Her deep faith and determination led her to co-found the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart, a religious order committed to education and helping those in need.
Mary’s story is one of courage, resilience and a belief in the power of education to transform lives. At a time when access to schooling was limited, especially for rural and disadvantaged children, Mary and her fellow sisters travelled far and wide to establish schools across Australia, often in remote and challenging conditions. Her famous words, “Never see a need without doing something about it,” continue to inspire the mission of Catholic schools today.
Earlier this year, our Year 5 and 6 students had the opportunity to visit Mary MacKillop Place in North Sydney as part of their excursion. It was a meaningful experience for the students, giving them the chance to walk in Mary’s footsteps, explore the museum, and pray at her tomb. This visit deepened their understanding of her life and the impact of her work.
On her Feast Day, we pray in thanksgiving for Saint Mary MacKillop’s life and legacy. Saint Mary MacKillop, pray for us.

Welcome to Our New Staff for 2026
We are excited to announce the appointment of three new staff members who will be joining the St Bede’s community in 2026. Each brings a wealth of experience and a passion for teaching.
Mrs Stephanie Cregan comes to us from St Gregory’s in Queanbeyan and will be joining the team full-time. Stephanie is a mum of four and has worked in education for over 10 years, including the past six years at St Gregory’s. She is known for her warm, inclusive, and supportive approach to teaching. Stephanie brings a deep commitment to student growth and wellbeing.
We warmly welcome Bridget, Stephanie, and Pamela to St Bede’s.
Please note that the school canteen will be closed on Friday 15 August. Students are reminded to bring their own lunch and snacks on this day. We appreciate your understanding and support.
Mrs Tregoning
A heartfelt thank you to Madame Tregoning for organising and running our recent photographic competition celebrating all things French. The competition was a wonderful opportunity for students to express their creativity and appreciation for French culture through photography. It was fantastic to see so many thoughtful and visually stunning interpretations of French life, language, and culture.
Uniform Shop Team
We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the amazing mums who generously volunteer their time in the school uniform shop. Your support ensures that everything runs smoothly and that families can access what they need with ease.
