We are a small co-educational Catholic primary school, centrally located in the leafy surrounds of Red Hill. St Bede’s caters for students from Kindergarten to Year 6  providing high-quality academic education in a personal and nurturing environment. Specialist teachers enrich student learning in Music, French and Library. Supplementary programs are also offered throughout the year including dance, gymnastics and sports clinics.

St Bede’s provides opportunities for support and challenge through differentiation, learning support, extra-curricular activities and extension. St Bede’s is a BYOiPad school, where students in Years 3-6 utilise one-on-one devices to support and enhance their learning in the classroom. Students in all classes K-6 have access to school iPads, desktop computers, ICT equipment and STEM resources to implement classroom programs.

In addition to our high-quality teaching programs, St Bede’s offers:

• Private tuition music lessons;
• Entry into external extension competitions, such as ICAS, Da Vinci Decathlon, Engineering Games and Maths Olympiad;
• Before and after school care, facilitated by YWCA;
• School Counsellor - CatholicCare provides the school with a part time counsellor who is available to see students and their families.  Appointments may be arranged by contacting the Principal;

St Bede's Learning Philosophy

Our learning and teaching philosophy reflects St Bede’s as a community of learners; with attention to understanding concepts through the exploration of big ideas, and building skills through inquiry learning, differentiation, attention to individual student growth and need, teacher collaboration and the considered use of technology to enhance teaching and learning opportunities.

He put before them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field; it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.” Matthew 13:31-32

Our Patron Saint

The school is named after St Bede, a Benedictine monk, who was born in England in 673. He lived a simple and faith-filled life, and devoted his whole life to learning, teaching and writing about his faith. From St Bede we learn the importance of being faithful to God in every ordinary task. Our school was established and run by the Good Samaritan Sisters in 1963-1985. We are fortunate in being able to maintain strong links with the Good Samaritan Communities in Canberra and Queanbeyan. St Bede’s officially became the parish school of St Christopher’s in 1992.
