School Vision

St Bede’s is a Catholic learning community where we encounter Jesus through one another. We are passionate and purposeful learners pursuing growth through innovation and challenge.

Our vision and beliefs express who we are and what we are about. They underpin who we are and are the litmus test for what we do and the directions we take.

‘The Catholic school as a place of integral education of the human person through a clear educational project of which Christ is the foundation; its ecclesial and cultural identity; its mission of education as a work of love; its service to society; the traits which should characterise the educating community.’ - The Catholic School on the Threshold of the Third Millennium

Our Values

At St Bede’s we strive for excellence in education. We believe that everyone is unique and created in the image of God. We walk in love and peace by living our 5C’s:

  • We are cooperative
  • We are courteous
  • We are considerate
  • We compromise
  • We understand that our actions have consequences

St Bede's Learning Philosophy

Our learning and teaching philosophy reflects St Bede’s as a community of learners; with attention to understanding concepts through the exploration of big ideas, and building skills through inquiry learning, differentiation, attention to individual student growth and need, teacher collaboration and the considered use of technology to enhance teaching and learning opportunities.

'A Catholic school is not simply a place where lessons are taught; it is a centre that has an operative educational philosophy, attentive to the needs of today’s youth and illuminated by the Gospel message. A thorough and exact knowledge of the real situation will suggest the best educational methods.' - The Religious Dimension of Education in Catholic School n.22

He put before them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field; it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and make nests in its branches.” Matthew 13:31-32

St Bede

Our Patron Saint

The school is named after St Bede, a Benedictine monk, who was born in England in 673. He lived a simple and faith-filled life, and devoted his whole life to learning, teaching and writing about his faith. From St Bede we learn the importance of being faithful to God in every ordinary task. Our school was established and run by the Good Samaritan Sisters in 1963-1985. We are fortunate in being able to maintain strong links with the Good Samaritan Communities in Canberra and Queanbeyan. St Bede’s officially became the parish school of St Christopher’s in 1992.

Our School Sport Teams

POLDING | YELLOW

Bede Polding was the first appointed Archbishop of Sydney. Apart from the many churches he founded, Polding began the construction of the second St Mary's Cathedral, Sydney in 1868, where he was later buried. Polding also founded the Sisters of the Good Samaritan in Sydney.

BENEDICT | BLUE

Saint Benedict was born in Norcia, Italy in 480 AD. He was an Italian monk who founded the Benedictine monastery at Monte Cassino and was the father of Western monasticism that was established and became the norm for monastic living throughout Europe. In 1964, in view of the work of monks following the Benedictine Rule of so many European countries in the Middle Ages, Pope Paul VI proclaimed him the patron saint of all Europe.

SCHOLASTICA | WHITE

Scholastica was the twin sister of Benedict. She was dedicated to God at an early age and established a religious community about five miles from Italy and that this was the first "Benedictine" convent. Once a year, Scholastica would visit her brother at a place near his abbey, and they would spend the day worshiping together and discussing sacred texts and issues. In later life she later moved closer to Benedict.
